All About the Kids

Clara Floyd, a middle school educator, was the first African American woman elected as MSEA president.  As a union activist and consistent advocate for all public school children, she never lost sight of the fact that at the end of the day, “It’s all about the kids.” She remains passionate about children getting an equal  opportunity to learn at a very early age. To honor her legacy, the Maryland State Education Association, and First Books have launched All About the Kids—the Clara Floyd Early Literacy Program. Each year books will be given to pre-k or kindergarten students in at risk schools at the beginning of the school year and during Read Across Maryland month in March.
